Tuesday Opening General Session Satellite Operator CEO Panel to feature Guest Moderators!
SATELLITE 2018 is excited to announce a new format for our annual Tuesday Opening General Session featuring the CEOs of the largest satellite operators in the world. For the first time, the panel will feature guest moderators that will join the group on stage to ask the operators questions about opportunities in specific data networking verticals. The guest moderators are: Andrew Spinola, Equity Research Director of Wells Fargo; Guillermo Muniz, Director, Satellite and Network Engineering of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.; and Maciej Kranz, Vice President of Strategic Innovation at Cisco. They will join session moderator Mark Holmes in a discussion with the CEOs of Intelsat, Telesat, SES, Eutelsat and ViaSat. You don’t want to miss this year’s exciting new opening general session! Howard Lance to deliver Thursday Morning Keynote at SATELLITE
Howard Lance, CEO of Maxar Technologies, will deliver the Thursday morning opening keynote address at SATELLITE 2018 on Thursday, March 15. During the keynote, which is open to all attendees, Howard will share how Maxar has unlocked the power of four market-leading space brands and address the opportunities that he sees for industry growth in this new space renaissance. The new space economy, he says, is expected to become a $1.1 trillion market by 2040, with demand for data and insights is growing and global IP traffic is projected to be about 60 times what it is now in the next 20 years. U.S. Department of Homeland Security sends top official overseeing Puerto Rico emergency relief efforts to SATELLITE
Chris Tuttle, Region II Coordinator, Office of Emergency Communications at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that he will speak during our Government & Military Forum session, “Severe Weather and Natural Disasters – How Satellites Support Warning, Response and Recovery “ on Tuesday, March 13. Mr. Tuttle led staff supporting the Emergency Support Function (ESF) #2, communications annex, to restore essential communications in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Island. At the regional response coordination center, his team set restoration priorities and coordinated response efforts to support the LMR and 9-1-1 systems, as well as other short-term restoration plans. These teams established communications in hospitals, public-safety answering points (PSAPs) and other critical services. Chris will join Joe Pica from the NOAA’s National Weather Service as government speakers on the panel.
Steven Hill, President of the Satellite Broadcast and Communications Association (SBCA) will be leading a regional broadcasting conference session, “Africa: Next-Gen Pay-TV and the role of Sports in OTT Adoption” on Wednesday, March 14. His guest speakers include: Carlos Tibi, President, CEO, & Founder of Icflix and Harish Goyal, CEO of Zee TV Africa.
Norman Yarbrough, Operations Research Analyst of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for C3, Cyber, and Business Systems, will speak during the session “Adapting the Government-Commercial Satcom Relationship for the 21st Century” on Wednesday, March 14.
John Ball, Vice President of International Distribution and Technology for Turner Broadcasting, will be speaking during the session “DTH Sustainability: A State of the Union Address for Satellite’s Most Reliable Market” on Monday, March 12. He will join Ignacio Sanchís, CCO of Hispasat and Robert Cerbone, Vice President and General Manager of Media for Intelsat on the session.
Daniel Baker, CEO of FlightAware, the largest commercial flight tracking service based in the United States, has been confirmed to speak during the session “Responding to Aeronautical Emergencies: Lessons Learned from Flights MH370 and AF447” on Wednesday, March 14.
