We’re very excited to announce that Glen DeVos, CTO, Aptiv, will speak on our connected car panel at SATELLITE 2018, titled “IoT on the Road: Connected Consumer Vehicles, OTT, and the Self-Driving Car.” The panel, which is part of our Mobile Connectivity Forum, will take place on Thursday, March 15. Aptiv was recently created as a spin-off of Silicon Valley-based software company, Delphi Electronics. They are a major technology partner of the popular ride-sharing app, Lyft. DeVos began his career at Delphi in 1992 and following several progressive engineering and managerial roles in infotainment and user experience, was named vice president, Global Engineering for Delphi E&S in 2012 before being named CTO of its new Aptiv Spinoff.
Bob Smith, the new CEO of Blue Origin, will speak during the SATELLITE 2018 Monday Closing Session – Launch Services Panel: Breaking Through the Bottleneck, on Monday, March 12. Bob came to Blue Origin from Honeywell Aerospace, where he was the Vice President of Advanced Technology, the Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Engineering & Technology and, finally, the President of the Mechanical Systems & Components business. He reports directly to Blue Origin Founder, Jeff Bezos. Bob will join the executive leadership from Arianespace, SpaceX, ULA, ILA and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries on the panel, which will be moderated by Eric Stallmer, President, Commercial Spaceflight Foundation.
We have executives from three major cruise lines confirmed for our maritime session, “Bringing Cruise Lines, Superyachts and Large Passenger Ships Up to Speed,” on Tuesday, March 13 in room 202. Fabio Agostini, CIO, Silversea Cruises; Guillermo Muniz, Director of Satellite and Network Engineering, Royal Caribbean Cruises; and Reza Rasoulian, Vice President of Global Connectivity & Shipboard Technology Operations, Carnival Corporation, will all join P.J. Beylier, CEO, Speedcast, and Bertrand Hartman, CEO, OmniAccess, as speakers on the panel.
A new group of aerospace investors has confirmed to participate in our Startup Space 2018 entrepreneur pitch contest: Jeanette Quinlan, Managing Director, Starburst Accelerator; Joel Viñas, Executive Director, The Center for Space Commerce and Finance (CSCF); Justus Kilian, Principal, Space Angels Network; Grégory Pradels, Investment Director, Aerospace Valley; and Michael Collett, Managing Partner, Promus Ventures. Each will participate as a judge on one our judge’s panels for groups scheduled throughout the competition on Tuesday, March 13. Rafferty Jackson from Jack Industries, Justin Cadman from Raymond James and Dave Fischer from Ball Aerospace, have also been confirmed to return as judges for the 2018 contest. David Shaw of Astrapi Corp., our 2017 Startup Space contest winner, will also return as a guest speaker.
